Yes! You can manually add foods by typing a description (e.g., '2 eggs and toast') and our AI will parse it, or you can use the camera/gallery. Manual text entry has no daily limit and works great for quick logging.
Go to Settings > Notifications and enable meal reminders. You can customize reminder times for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks to help you stay consistent with tracking. Push notifications require allowing permissions on your device.
You can easily edit any food item detected by the AI. Tap the edit (pencil) icon to change the food name, adjust portion size, or manually enter nutritional values. Your corrections help improve future accuracy.
Use the date tabs on the Dashboard (Today, Yesterday) or tap the calendar icon to select any date within your retention period. You can log meals retroactively to keep your streak and history accurate.
Your streak increases each day you log at least one meal. Logging counts even for offline captures! Your streak is visualized as a growing tree in My Garden (Social tab) - from Seed (Day 1) all the way to Grove (Day 45+). Miss a day and your tree starts withering, but you can revive it by logging again!
Go to Settings > Edit Profile and scroll down to find the 'Re-calculate Target Calories' button. The AI will use your current weight, goal weight, height, age, gender, activity level, and health goal to calculate an optimal daily calorie target using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Make sure all your profile fields are filled in for accurate results.
Plate-Wise is available on the Google Play Store for Android devices. You can also use the web app version directly in your browser at plate-wise.com - your progress syncs across all platforms!
PlateWise offers 4 input methods: (1) Camera - take a photo for AI analysis, (2) Gallery - upload an existing photo, (3) Voice - speak your food items for hands-free logging, and (4) Type - manually enter food descriptions. All methods work with our AI to estimate nutrition. Camera and gallery use your daily AI capture limits, while voice and text entry are unlimited.
Smart Favorites lets you log frequently eaten foods with one tap! When you heart ❤️ a food item, it's saved to your favorites and tagged with the meal type. On collapsed meal cards, you'll see up to 3 favorite pills for quick one-tap logging. The Add Food picker shows up to 8 favorites filtered by meal type. Favorites are sorted by recent usage and frequency. Long-press (600ms) on any favorite pill to remove it.
PlateWise organizes your daily food into 5 meal types: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, and Supper. Each has its own expandable card on the Dashboard showing total calories and items. You can add multiple food items to each meal throughout the day.
Sage is your AI nutrition assistant! She appears as a floating chat bubble on Dashboard, Planner, and Progress screens. Pro users can tap to chat with Sage for personalized meal ideas, nutrition advice, recipe suggestions, and answers to food-related questions. She considers your goals, dietary preferences, allergies, medical conditions, and even your cycle phase if enabled.
The AI Meal Planner (Pro feature) creates personalized meal plans based on your calorie goals, dietary preferences (Keto, Vegan, etc.), allergies, medical conditions, and food preferences. It considers your health phase, activity level, and cuisine preferences to suggest practical meals you'll actually enjoy.
Pro users can ask up to 10 AI chat questions per day (shared across Progress and Planner screens). This resets daily at midnight. Sage remembers your conversation context within a session for more relevant follow-up answers. Free users see an upgrade prompt when tapping the Sage chat bubble.
Yes! When you add medical notes in your profile (like 'diabetic, high cholesterol, gout'), the AI parses each condition and tailors meal suggestions accordingly. It avoids problematic foods and prioritizes health-safe options for all your conditions.
Yes! If you've enabled cycle tracking or selected a hormonal status in Settings > Profile, the AI provides phase-specific nutrition advice - like iron-rich foods during menstruation, anti-inflammatory foods during ovulation, or magnesium-rich foods during the luteal phase.
Tap the microphone icon and speak your food items naturally, like "two eggs and a slice of toast with butter". The AI parses your speech into individual food items with nutrition estimates. Voice input is great for hands-free logging while cooking! There's no daily limit on voice entries.
Yes! When you correct a food name or manually enter calories (like from a menu or package label), PlateWise stores this correction. The next time you scan a similar food, the AI uses your verified data to provide more accurate estimates. This Diet Learning feature improves over time as you use the app.
When editing a food item: (1) Change only calories → macros scale proportionally (instant, no AI call), (2) Change only quantity → all values scale by the ratio (e.g., '1/2 cob' to '1 cob' = 2x), (3) Change name → AI re-estimates everything, (4) Change name AND calories → AI estimates macros but keeps your calorie value. Only name/calorie corrections are saved to help future AI accuracy.
AI analysis requires sending your photo to our servers for processing. The time depends on your internet connection speed and server load. If you're on a slow connection, analysis may take 5-15 seconds. Offline captures are queued and processed when you're back online.
When you tap 'Re-calculate Target Calories' in your profile, the AI uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), then adjusts for your activity level to find your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). Based on your goal (lose, maintain, gain weight, etc.), it calculates a healthy daily calorie target with safety checks to ensure it's not below healthy minimums.
Tables are social dining groups where you track meals together with friends, family, or accountability partners (2-8 people). When ALL members log meals daily, your group streak grows and your shared tree progresses through stages! Tables create motivation through friendly accountability.
Go to the Social tab > Tables > Create Table or Join Table. To create, give it a name and type (Friends, Family, Gym Buddies, etc.). To join, enter an invite code (format: PW-XXX-24) or click a shared invite link. You can be in multiple Tables at once.
Plate Party lets you capture group meals with friends! Take a photo of a shared meal, and the AI calculates total calories which can be split equally or custom among participants. Great for dining out with your Table members - everyone gets their portion logged automatically!
Each Table has a shared streak tree that grows when ALL members log at least one meal per day. Stages progress: Seed (Day 1) → Sprout → Sapling → Flowering → Blooming → Fruiting → Flourishing → Forest (Day 30) → Grove (Day 45+). If anyone misses a day, the tree starts withering!
Go to Social tab > Friends > Find. Search for friends by their name or email address. Send a friend request, and once they accept, you're connected! Friends can see each other's streaks and calories (based on privacy settings) and easily invite each other to Tables.
Yes! You can capture meal photos offline. They'll be saved locally and queued for AI analysis. When you're back online, the app automatically syncs and processes your pending meals. Your streak is preserved even for offline captures!
Pro users get automatic cloud sync. Log in on any device with the same account and your data syncs automatically within seconds. Free users have local storage only (single device). For cross-device sync, upgrade to Pro.
Pending meals are safely stored locally on your device. You'll see a "Pending Sync" indicator in the app. Once you're online again, the app automatically processes and syncs all pending meals. No data is lost!
Health app integration is coming soon! We're working on syncing your nutrition data with Apple Health (iOS) and Google Fit (Android). Stay tuned for updates in the app.
Direct fitness tracker integration is on our roadmap. Currently, you can manually track your activity level in your profile, and the AI will factor this into your calorie recommendations.

Go to Settings > Subscription > Manage Subscription. You can cancel anytime and continue using Pro features until the end of your billing period. Your data is retained according to your tier's retention policy.
If you downgrade to Free, your cloud data remains accessible but won't sync to new devices. The Free plan's 7-day retention applies to new data. Consider exporting your data as PDF before downgrading.
The Free plan gives you full access to core features including calorie tracking, macro tracking, and 3 AI food scans per day. This lets you experience the app before deciding to upgrade. Pro unlocks unlimited AI scans, Sage AI coaching, meal planning, and more.

Go to Settings > Goals > Macro Targets. You can set custom percentages for protein, carbs, and fat, or choose from presets like High Protein, Low Carb, or Balanced. The AI will help you meet these targets with its recommendations.
Yes! Go to Settings > Profile > Allergies and add your food allergies (nuts, shellfish, dairy, gluten, etc.). The AI will flag foods containing your allergens and exclude them from meal suggestions.
Yes! Your data is stored securely using industry-leading cloud infrastructure with enterprise-grade encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit and at rest. We use secure authentication with optional biometric login (fingerprint/face). Food photos are processed temporarily for AI analysis and not permanently stored. We never share your personal data with third parties for marketing. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Absolutely not. We never sell your personal data to third parties. Your nutrition data is used solely to provide and improve the service. We only share data with service providers essential for app functionality (Firebase, Stripe, Google AI).
Go to Settings > Data Management > Delete Account. This permanently deletes all your data within 30 days. Before deleting, you can export your data as PDF. This action cannot be undone.
Food photos are processed temporarily by Google's AI for nutritional analysis and are not permanently stored on our servers. Only the resulting nutritional data and a thumbnail (if enabled) are saved to your meal log.
